BEARS FANS, THE CHICAGO BEARS & BEARS CARE TEAM UP TO RAISE OVER $200,000 FOR ILLINOIS TORNADO RELIEF EFFORTS
LAKE FOREST, IL – Bears fans, the Chicago Bears and Bears Care will be donating over $200,000 to the American Red Cross – Greater Chicago Region for their Illinois tornado relief fund. Last Tuesday, the Chicago Bears established the website www.chicagobears.com/tornadorelief where fans could donate money or bid on game worn items from the team’s overtime victory over the Ravens. The St. Louis Rams also donated a suite to last Sunday’s Bears/Rams game. Thanks to the generosity of Bears fans, the online auction raised $32,857 when the bidding closed at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 and additional cash donations totaled $22,240. Bears Care, the team’s charitable beneficiary, will match the $55,097 total raised online and the Chicago Bears will add an additional $100,000 to bring the total donation to $210,194.
A check for $210,194 will be presented tomorrow to the American Red Cross – Greater Chicago Region for their Illinois tornado relief fund during the CBS Chicago Cares Disaster Relief Radio-Telethon at 22 W. Washington, Chicago, which will air on WBBM Newsradio 780 and 105.9 FM from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. Bears Care board members Jerry Azumah and Dave Anderson will join team mascot Staley Da Bear for the check presentation at 6:15 pm.
